Mission or Philosophy: The Academy of Dallas, with the integrated efforts of parents, school faculty and staff, and community, will achieve a high level of student success in learning. Our students will achieve at or above state and national norms and standards. We will accomplish this by using highly effective teaching and learning practices and instructional technologies. We will provide faculty and staff the supported opportunity, responsibility and accountability to operate and manage the school and its programs, curriculum, and instruction. We will also work hand in hand with parents and the community.
Curriculum Design and Core Teaching Methods: Curriculum and instruction is the core of the Academy educational program. We will be using the core curriculum of Texas, and will also use the benchmarks and assessment programs (TAAS) of the State of Texas. 1. We will be following a mastery-based instructional program, ensuring that students truly learn essential knowledge and skill on which to build later learning. 2. We will be using flexible grouping to ensure that we are teaching all children at the appropriate level. 3. We have higher expectations of our students, and (with parent involvement) provide the support which enables our children to meet those expectations. 4. We give an entrepreneurship focus to our school.
Distinctive Features of the School: Mastery based learning of essential concepts and skills and application to business and daily living. 2. Flexible grouping of students for instruction, based on actual mastery. 3. Small class size and frequent use of volunteers to ensure that students get individual assistance. 4. Use of state-of-the-art technology to enhance student learning and to track student learning progress. 5. Involvement of local business owners and entrepreneurs in the daily curriculum. 6. Student creation and/or operation of small businesses as an intermediate grade requirement. 7. High expectations for student achievement, matched by the support which enables those expectations to be met. We have a site school that offers grades 4th-8th.
